Admission Criteria

Vera School makes provision for learners with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Autism Spectrum Disorder seems to be the terminology preferred in Europe. Pervasive Developmental Disorder is used widely in the United States of America and is also used in the formal diagnostic tool that we use namely "Diagnostic & Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders " (DSM IV). The autism spectrum indicates that despite the existence of common core features, different subgroups of learners with ASD present with their own pattern of symptoms. The school admits the following sub-groups:

  • Autistic Disorder also refered to as Kanner's Autism or Classic Autism
  • Asperger's Disorder
  • Pervasive Developmental Disorder not otherwise specified {PDD (NOS)} also refered to as Atypical Autism.
