Vera School is situated on a one and a half acre piece of land in the residential suburb of Rondebosch East. The school is well resourced and has a school hall, a Sensory Modulation Room and seperate assessment rooms. The hostel is on the same grounds as the school and provides residence to 35 learners.
Vera is a public school functioning under the auspices of the Western Cape Education Department and receives an annual State subsidy. All of our professional staff, and some of our non-professional staff, are paid by the state.
We are a dual-medium school, our languages of instruction are English and Afrikaans. We have a multi-disciplinary team approach, the team consists of a psychiatrist, psychologist, speech therapist, occupational therapist and educationalist. Our psychiatrist renders services on a sessional basis.
The current learner-to-teacher ratio is 8 - 1. Each class has at least one teacher's assistant and there are a total of 12 classes. the full staff compliment is 66. This includes an outreach team of 4 professionals who are managed by but not based at the school.
