Senior education, speech and occupational students spend a part of their practical training at our school. The training is supervised mutually by our staff and university lecturers. A basic principle is that the time spent at the school must be substantial so that it does not only serve as an orientation but creates opportunities for hands on involvement and complimenting good quality service delivery.
The school is not able to accommodate psychology interns.
The school encourages tertiary institutions to send more teacher students for practice teaching for longer periods of time.
Sometimes international students apply for practical training at the school. Each application is considered on merit. Complete CV’s, including at least three recent references, have to be forwarded to the school before processing of any application can begin. On request, accommodation at the school can be negotiated.
The school welcomes the services of local volunteers. Local volunteers need to make an appointment to meet with the deputy principal of the school. The local volunteer is required to provide the school with a SAPS clearance certificate, a certified copy of his/her identity document and days and times of availability. For international volunteers, these requirements are facilitated by volunteer recruitment agencies.
It is preferred that volunteers avail themselves for at least 3 weeks. This is for the sake of the learners who have difficulties with constant change as well as for the volunteer to gain sufficient knowledge of the learners and the school. All volunteers are subjected to the 3 week rule. All volunteers are orientated before they are assigned to specific classes.
